IMDI 2018 Conference

The 15th National Conference and Technology Exhibition on Indian Medical Devices & Plastics Disposables / Implants Industry was held at Ahmedabad Management Association, Ahmedabad, on October 26-27, 2018.

The programme focused on the theme Medical Device Sector: Making India Globally Competitive, with attention to medical polymers and processing, medical textile and other materials, device manufacturing, quality assurance and certification, regulations, market trends and analysis, technology, research and developments, packaging and sterilization.

Day 1 Programme Highlights

• The inaugural session included Dr. S. Eswara Reddy, Mr. Rajneesh Tingal, Dr. H. G. Koshia, Mr. Kishore Khanna, Mr. Rajiv Nath, Dr. Arvind Kukrety, Mr. Prakash Bachani, Dr. Kiran Kalia, Mr. Sunil Parekh and Dr. Atul Sardana.
• A panel discussion on building the MedTech ecosystem in India was moderated by Mr. Rajiv Nath with panel experts from CDSCO, Romsons, AIPMA, Conquest Medtech, Covestro and biomedical engineering.
• Materials and manufacturing presentations covered styrenics for infusion sets and drug-delivery housings, polymer compounds and masterbatches, and advanced products for local medical device manufacturing.
• A second panel discussion addressed whether global competitiveness in the medical device sector was getting easier or tougher.

Day 2 Workshops and Tracks

• Parallel tracks covered recent changes to biocompatibility testing from the manufacturer's perspective, drug/medical device combination products, orthopaedic implant manufacturing, and emerging trends in medical plastics materials, processes and markets.
• The programme included Technology Display Show visits and sessions from GLR Laboratories, Accuprec Research Labs, CDSCO, BIS, SITRA, Milacron India and medical plastics processors.
